Hoboken mayor to host rally for waterfront property

first_img× HOBOKEN — Mayor Ravi Bhalla will host a rally next Friday, April 20, at 6 p.m. to protect Hoboken’s waterfront. The rally will be hosted at Maxwell Place waterfront park and is a response to NY Waterway’s attempt to use the Union Dry Dock property — which they own — as a ferry maintenance and repair site. The city has stated that they would like to turn the property into public open space.“This is a chance for Hoboken residents to have their voices heard,” said Bhalla in a press release. “We hope that Governor Murphy will listen to his voters and see that Hoboken is the wrong place for this facility.”The city had moved to obtain the property through eminent domain, but since terminated those proceedings after recieving pressure from the governor’s office.NJ Transit was considering purchasing the land and leasing it back to NY Waterway. For more on this and other ongoing issues, pick up your Hoboken Reporter each week, or return to hudsonreporter.com.last_img
