To put that in perspective, Meyer’s 7 first-set kills equaled Flintridge Prep’s leader in kills for the entire match.Ellen Chang led the Rebels with 7 kills.Meyer also closed out the first two games with aces on her serve.“Today, we played all right, but there is a lot of room for improvement,” Meyer said. “My role is to lead the team in kills and help my teammates. (Winning the first league game of the year) really sets the tone for the rest of the season.”Along with Chang’s 7 kills for Flintridge Prep (1-1 overall, 0-1 in league) Courtney Johnson and Jada Gritton had 6 kills apiece for the Rebels. Captain Jade Whaley had 18 assists.“This is only the second game of the year for our, so we’re still learning and going through growing pains,” Rebels coach Sean Beattie said. “They’re one of the best teams in league and we battled. I was really impressed that we were able to stop a couple of their runs. It’s easy to pack up when you lose the first two games, but we kept competing and I was proud.”Angelica Raymundo had 25 assists for Westridge (3-0, 1-0), while the Rebels squad had a game-best 9 aces.“Game one, we performed well and game two tapered off a bit. It could have been better,” Westridge coach Otto Lacayo said. “We need to clean it up, but we got the win. It’s huge (to win first league game), we have another one on Friday and plays a role in the growth process.”Meyer is looking to be part of a perfect season.“We can kill this whole season and go undefeated,” she said. “We have good balance and size and girls with a lot of experience.”Westridge plays Friday night at Rio Hondo Prep as league play continues at 6:30.Flintridge Prep gets back at it today (Thursday) when it hosts Firebaugh at 3:15.Contact: [email protected] follow us on Twitter @SportsPasadena and we encourage readers to send us real-time scores, pictures and videos to our twitter handle with the hashtag #PasadenaNowSports Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadenalast_img
