It was actually impetigo, a skin infection. By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Ten things to know about Sumner County winter sports for Feb. 3, 2015…1. Basketball teams back in action. They are calling it the Div. III vs. Div. IV battle of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League this week. Does that make sense? Well, the AV-CTL is divided into four six team divisions. The third biggest schools are playing the fourth biggest (or smallest) league schools.Over the next three games, Wellington has three DIII opponents: at Buhler tonight, hosting Augusta Friday and traveling to Winfield next Tuesday. The Crusaders will then return for the second half of the AV-CTL DIV schedule to round out the regular season.  Hard to believe, the Crusaders have played 12 of their 20 regular season games. All roads end up in Winfield for the post season sub-state on March 3-4 featuring a four-team tournament including the Dukes, Vikes, Rose Hill and Mulvane. Battle of the Crusaders.Wellington girls and boys are heading north to play Buhler tonight. These two teams used to be old Chisholm Trail League rivals – playing twice a year in the 1980s and 1990s. Now they play on occasion when their non-league schedules mesh. The Wellington girls, who reached .500 for the first time this season, after placing fifth in the Haven Tournament will be rewarded with Buhler, who is 11-2, ranked fifth in the latest KBCA poll, and a third place finisher in the same Haven Tournament. On the boys side, Wellington boys at 7-5, will be hitting the hardwood for the first time in 10 days after placing second in the Chaparral Roadrunner Classic. Buhler is 9-4 after beating Mulvane 70-49 last Friday.“It’s a great atmosphere up there,” said Brian Buchanan, Wellington head boys basketball coach. “We better be ready to play because they will make you play – not just the players but the fans.” Augusta, home 3. Post script from Haven Tournament. WHS basketball players Avery Rusk and Lauryn Snipes were named to the Haven Tournament’s All-Tourney team. Rusk is a freshman and Snipes is a sophomore. Both girls were in double figures all three nights. Rusk had 12 against Kingman, 17 against Rose Hill and 23 points against Cheney. Snipes had 14, 16, and 19 in the same three games. Report Reply 0 replies · active 288 weeks ago +7 Vote up Vote down Better hygiene · 288 weeks ago Not sure where you got “foot fungus” Cue. Several wrestlers were diagnosed with Impetigo. The coaches need to enforce better hygiene practice. Several wrestlers wearing the same practice clothes day after day unwashed! Other wrestling programs require students to shower at the school directly following practice with an anti fungal and antibacterial soap such as Defense Soap! Report Reply 1 reply · active 288 weeks ago 0 Vote up Vote down JustMe · 288 weeks ago Good thing that’s not contagious….oh wait…. Impetigo is a bacteria, not fungus. It is spreadable by contact, or contact with something another infected person has touched. Glad the school is being honest about the well being of all of our children. Another one of those “reports of someone in the area taking pictures” moments. Report Reply +2 Vote up Vote down CueballSumnernewscow 94p · 288 weeks ago I made the correction. The Crusaders were supposed to go to the Andover Tournament last weekend but Wellington wrestling head coach Mitch McComb said the team had been inflicted with a impetigo, a skin infection, and canceled the trip instead of affecting other teams. Obviously, Mulvane wasn’t at the tournament. (Editor apologizes for last sentence and Mulvane was at Andover.)Wellington will be traveling to the Rose Hill tournament this Saturday. The Crusaders next dual will be home Feb. 12 against Circle which will be Senior Night. Wellington has just one home competitive match after Christmas break. As far as Andrew Pelkey’s status, he may finally see the wrestling mat this Saturday at Rose Hill. Aaron Fair, ruled out earlier, may have a possibility of wrestling in the regional in Pratt. But it will depend on what the doctors will rule as the time approaches, McComb said. 6.
