Track Rules

first_imgAre you aware that these track rules exist?  If any race is two laps or more, you must signal how many laps remain for the competitor.  It used to be that only long races, like the 3200 meter, had a gun lap for the competitors.  It is recommended that instead of shooting the gun to indicate the last lap that a bell be used. They have changed uniform rules so often that they finally relaxed most regulations.  However, nothing is still allowed on the uniform except for two things–a school name and/or a United States flag.  The flag must be no bigger than 2″ x 3″.They have clarified the “assisting a runner” rule. Runners are still disqualified if anyone helps them in any way unless that help comes from a certified health official.  This was put into effect in case a runner would suddenly become ill and need immediate care.Unlike other sports, track and cross country athletes are not allowed to celebrate victories.  Most officials are very lenient unless taunting is involved.  You may be disqualified if the track official does not like words that a competitor may use during or after a race.  You can bet you won’t see a victory dance in a track meet.last_img
